Stellenbosch, South Africa, 25 May 2021 – Every harvest brings new challenges and new opportunities, and it is no different in business or in the change of winemaking teams in our industry.

With this in mind, we are sad to announce that Alastair Rimmer, our cellarmaster of the past seven vintages will be leaving Kleine Zalze Wines at the end of May to start another exciting chapter in his career. Alastair commented: “It has been a privilege to work for such a great wine brand and I am grateful for the opportunity that you have afforded me. Working with the excellent Kleine Zalze team has been most enjoyable and rewarding”.

Alastair made an invaluable contribution in heading up the winemaking and viticultural teams as well as being an excellent spokesman for the Kleine Zalze brand. We wish Alastair only the very best for his future career.

RJ Botha, our current head of winemaking will step into the role of cellarmaster. He will continue with his current role as head winemaker but will also take on the added responsibility of managing the viticultural and farming operations to oversee the entire grape and wine production process.

RJ joined Kleine Zalze Wines in 2012 as a young winemaker and progressed quickly to head up the winemaking team. Stepping up to the broader role is a natural and much deserved progression for RJ in his career and Kleine Zalze has full confidence in him to ensure that our complete portfolio of wines keep on performing consistently at the highest levels. RJ will lead the exciting new phase in the winemaking progression of Kleine Zalze and will be supported by the existing team of very capable winemakers and viticulturists.
